All 1940s Tottenham Hotspur Cigarette Cards, Trade Cards & Stickers
The 1940s was a decade severely affected by The Second World War with all competitive football abandoned until 1946 and card production stopped until a few years after that.
In a Tottenham Hotspur context however, the 1940s deserve to be treated seperately from the following decade: Arthur Rowe took over management of the team and his 'Push & Run' sides won the 2nd Division title in 1950 and the 1st Division title in 1951 and set the foundations for all that was to follow.
The 1940s then are a distinct decade marking the club's final years as a 2nd Division club before events thrust the club into the upper echelons of football.
The number of cards from this time are understandably fairly few but those that are available are still interesting and varied. (NB. Please see the 'Barratt/Bassett' page as there are a few 1940s cards from this company displayed there as well).
