All 1920s Tottenham Hotspur Cigarette & Trade Cards

The 1920s was the start of what is known as 'The Golden Age' of cigarette cards. After the war cigarette companies resumed card production but, unlike before, they did not have the field to themselves this time. Confectionery companies and, especially, publishing firms got in on the act resulting in an even greater range and style of cards.

The early years of the decade were dominated by a huge set of cards issued by Godfrey Phillips which became known as the Pinnace series. Over 2500 individual cards were produced with many variations.

This coincided nicely with the Tottenham team of the same period that won the FA Cup in 1921, the 2nd Division title in 1920 and that was Division One runners-up in 1922.

Spurs spent the next eight years in the first division and the decade continued to see a whole range of Tottenham cards from a very wide source right up to and beyond Spurs eventual relegation in 1928.

Compared to the other decades preceding the Second World War, the 1920s were a dizzyingly number of Tottenham Hotspur cigarette and trade cards as the gallery below hopefully shows...
