All Pre-Great War Tottenham Hotspur Cards
This is where the history of Tottenham Hotspur cards began with the first Tottenham cards being issued in 1901 just as football cigarette card production was commencing.
As a smallish Southern League club at the time, for card collectors it was fortunate that Spurs won the FA Cup in 1901 as it propelled them into the national spotlight as, without this, cards relating to Spurs from this time would be few and far between.
While there are many single cards that light up this period, the Edwardian era is dominated by a few large series.
Ogdens included a dozen-and-a-half Tottenham cards as part of its General Interest Series of 1901 while F&J Smith also issued 11 Spurs cards as part of its 1901 Cup Tie set. (Both these sets obviously illustrate Tottenham's FA Cup winning team of that year).
Three more large sets were also issued by Taddy & Co in the Pre-WWI period. (I have reproduction examples of the first set from 1907, a number of originals from the second set issued in 1908 and no cards from the very expensive third set of 1913).
A small cigarette firm based in Tottenham, Jones Brothers, also issued a singular set with 18 cards of Spurs players from 1912 of which again I have a reproduction set & a number of originals.
All these cards are wonderful as they are now all around a century old (many older) & are therefore a link to the past and the early days of Tottenham Hotspur.
