All Early Tottenham Hotspur Panini Stickers (1968 - 1987)

Panini is, perhaps, the greatest of all names involved in football cards & stickers.

The company was founded in Italy by two Panini brothers in 1961 and found immediate success through its 'Calciatore' football sticker sets. Panini did not initially produce stickers for the UK market and the few early Tottenham Hotspur stickers are from more general continental issues.

The company's first foray into the Britain was through its 'Top Sellers' brand form 1972 to 1977 (see the previous seperate page for these) before they finally started producing stickers under their own famous name for the UK market in 1978.

The company was then to dominate the football sticker world for the next 20-odd years until Topps/Merlin came on the scene.

Panini was sold to the Maxwell Corporation in 1988 which heralded a decline in the company's fortunes until it was returned to Italian hands in 1992 and it has since been through a number of different corporate owners although always having its headquarters in Italy.

The very large number of Tottenham Hotspur stickers issued by Panini (the last ones relating to the club being in 1998) has meant the need to split this part of the collection into two pages.

It is fortunate that the early stickers, when Panini was owned by the original Panini brothers up until 1987, amounts to about half of all the Spurs stickers issued so this is an opportune point to split the collection with the post-Panini brothers offerings being on the next page.
