All Topps Tottenham Hotspur Cards (1975 - 1981)

Topps entered the UK football card market in 1975 when the company bought A&BC. Founded in 1938, Topps is an American company that started issuing trade cards (initially baseball) in its gum packets in 1951 in an effort to boost sales.

To the company's credit, the production of English football card sets continued seamlessly from the A&BC series for the rest of the of the 1970s and into the start of the next decade.

These early Topps cards are markedly different from the modern Topps cards as the company, for some reason, stopped issuing football cards in 1981 and did not re-emerge until the early 1990s (apart from one set in 1988) when it would become the acknowledged leviathan of football card production.

Given the 10 years break, these early sets bear far more relation to their preceding A&BC cards than to their modern namesakes and belong to that earlier era.
