All Other 1970s Tottenham Hotspur Cards & Stickers

The 1970s was a decade of change for Tottenham.

The early part was successful with League Cup victories in 1971 & 1973 and the UEFA Cup victory in 1972. However Spurs lost their first ever cup final in 1974 to Feyenoord in the UEFA Cup and this precipitated a decline in fortunes.

Bill Nicholson resigned shortly after ending a 16 year (1958-1974) reign and, within a few years, Spurs were to suffer relegation.

Thankfully this was followed by immediate promotion back to the 1st Division and, under the stewardship of Keith Burkinshaw, were then to build a team that would regain much success at the start of the next decade.

The card world saw the demise of a great stalwart, A&BC, whose continuous annual football card production uncannily mirrored Bill Nicholson's reign (1958-1974). To their credit however, Topps Inc., who took over the old company continued producing football cards similar to A&BC's for the rest of the decade and slightly beyond.

Barratts & FKS continued their yearly offerings while Panini entered the market full-time, first through their sub-company Top Sellers and then, from 1978, under their own brand name (which they would contiue to do for the next 20 years). (All three of these card issuers have their own, separate pages on this site).

Aside from these big producers, the 1970s saw a great range and number of issuers and card designs.

Another development towards the end of the decade was the move by football clubs to issue new 'designer' strips, a trend that was to grow immensely from then on in. This, again, starts to offer even more variation in football card design.

Welcome to the 1970s...
