All Other 1960s Tottenham Hotspur Trade Cards & Stickers

It's getting to be a long time ago now but the 1960's were the glory days for Tottenham Hotspur. The team that won The Double in 1961, retained the FA Cup in 1962 & were the first British winners of a European trophy in 1963 were one of the best club sides in the world and one of the most celebrated teams even today.

Eventhough this team broke up, Bill Nicholson's sides of the later 1960s, although not reaching the heights of earlier, remained a major force in English football winning the FA Cup once more in 1967.

Football cards remained as numerous and as varied as ever with new players arriving on the scene such as Typhoo to complement the older stalwarts such as Barratts & A&BC.

A new phenomenon however was quietly making an entry by the end of the decade, one that was to revolutionise football cards: the sticker.

Italian-issued stickers with the odd UK team interest appeared in around 1968 while, at the same time, F.K.S. started producing, annually, very popular sets of stickers representing whole team squads, a run that would continue into the early '80s when they would succumb to the challenge of UK-issued Panini issues.

While cards would always remain, from now on in they would have to compete with the hugely popular sticker issues for both young & adult boys' attention.

The 1960s then should be enjoyed as the last decade when the football card remained the unrivalled king before the field changed somewhat forever.
